This short and wonderful trek begins from the scenic city of Pokhara, an exciting drive reaches the hill village of Ulleri. The tough steep ups to Ulleri are covered by driving or otherwise, the trekkers had to climb thousands of stone steps.

After a nice village of Ulleri, the walk leads into beautiful forest surroundings of tall rhododendrons and pine trees. Then reaching our destination at Ghorepani village, stand atop a high ridge at the base of the famous Poon Hill.

Ghorepani is a lovely place, as well as the highest village for overnight halt. The next early morning, a short hike up to Poon Hill to catch stunning sunrise over arrays of snow peaks. Overlooking the grand vista of 

Mt. Dhaulagiri is the world’s 7th highest, and Mt. Manaslu is the 8th highest. Include the massif range of Annapurna Himalayan peaks listed as the 10th highest peaks the Mt. Annapurna-I.

Enjoying the refreshing cool morning mountain air within the pristine surroundings, the walks continue. Heading up and down to reach the last mountain village at Ghandruk, populated by the Gurung hill tribes.

At Ghandruk explore the lovely cultures of Gerung’s ancient and traditional heritage, and return journey with an interesting drive to Pokhara. A perfect place to complete the wonderful Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trekking. After a great experience on the high hills of Annapurna Himalayas.   

Best Seasons for Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trekking 

The best times for this short and scenic trek to Poon Hill are spring, autumn. The high seasons for trekking around the Himalayas. Most days are clear for views and pleasant walks. The spring season begins from March to May, most days is pleasant, with glorious views of snow-capped mountain range.Spring is also the best time for wildflowers, especially the rhododendrons of various species and colors. Makes the whole hills and valley lively and colorful, can get overcast with light rain sometimes.

Cold morning and night time above 1,500 m onwards. The next good season is autumn from September to November, it is also the peak seasons for trekking around the Himalayas. Clear day for views and pleasant walks, sunny days most of the time in autumn. But gets dark soon, due to short sunlight hours, cold morning, and late afternoon till nighttime.

Can expect snowfall around Ghorepani to Tadapani sometimes. Ghorepani and Poon Hill treks can be enjoyed during the winter times of Christmas and New Year Holidays and onwards. But temperatures drop to freezing cold in the morning, late afternoon and night times. Could get snowfall, sometimes during the winter times. Day 04: Drive to Ulleri village 2,050 m via Thirkhedhunga 1,425 m – 04 hours. 
Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani village 2,885 m – 04 hrs.
Day 06: Morning hike to Poon Hill and trek to Tadapani 2,640 m-06 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Ghandruk village 1,951 m and drive to Pokhara 860 m- 06 hrs.

Itinerary

Arriving in Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, our guide and staff receives you for a short transfer to your hotels. Then check into your nice rooms at given time meet with other trekking members for trek briefing.
Regarding Ghorepani and Poon Hill trekking, with dos and don’ts as well information on Responsible Tourism. Evening a group welcome dinner in a nice Nepali Restaurants, a great introduction to Nepali foods and cultures.

Morning at given time having hearty breakfast transfer to a spacious vehicle, as
per the group size. Either in a car, coach or comfortable bus for larger groups of
more than 10 persons. The drive follows Trisuli River to the junction, where our
route diverts towards west. An interesting drive past nice villages and towns,
driving is the best way to observe the rural farm life of Nepal.

After an exciting drive of more than 5-6 hours reaching our overnight destination
at beautiful Pokhara. Transfer to a nice hotel, situated by the lovely serene Phewa
Lake, in the shadow of Annapurna Himalayas.

Kathmandu to Pokhara is approx.220 km/137 miles driving distance.
Options for flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara, about 30 minutes’ scenic flight.

Having a leisure time in Pokhara by the Lake Phewa, after breakfast an exciting drive of few hours to Ulleri. The drive in the comfort of a local jeep or similar four wheel drives. On leaving Pokhara heading west, after an interesting journey our route diverts from the main Pokhara and Baglung Highway. Then driving on dirt tracks with winding ups through the nice village of Bhirethati. Facing wonderful waterfalls to reach farm villages of Hille and Thirkhedhunga. Another lovely views of waterfalls, as the road winds up to reach Ulleri village for the overnight stop.
Enjoy the comfort of simple lodge with first overnight in the mountain village with views of Annapurna peaks.

Morning enjoy the breakfast with views of Annapurna peaks, and surrounding
beautiful landscapes terrains of farm terraces. A short walk to start the first day of
trekking to Ghorepani of more than 3 hours. On leaving Ulleri village populated
by Magar Poon people, the main hill tribes of Western Nepal. The walks lead into
a lovely forested path, with few short climbs to reach Ghorepani village.
From the main gate of village entrance, heading up for to the top of Ghorepani
which is called Deurali. All the houses and lodges are painted blue, located around
the beautiful rhododendrons and pine forest. Just below from the famous scenic
Poon Hill, at Ghorepani for lunch and overnight with grand views of Dhaulagiri
Himal.

Start the short hike to Poon Hill, early morning before breakfast takes about an
hour or more. Walking up into lovely woodland then atop of Poon Hill with a view
tower to enjoy Himalayan panoramic views. Reaching on time for sunrise facing
east as the brilliant light of sunrise reflects over the white snow peaks.

Stunning panorama of world’s three highest peaks of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and
Annapurna with majestic Machhapuchare Himal the famous Fish-Tail peak.
After a breathtaking view of sunrise and Himalayan Mountain range, descend
back to the lodge at Ghorepani. Enjoy the breakfast and start walking uphill
through dense lovely forest of rhododendrons and pines. Reach on top a ridge at
Deurali, a small settlement with few Tea-Houses. From here downhill into the
then stopping for lunch at Bhanthati. Afternoon walk leads down and up to
Tadapani is situated within dense forest in the backdrop of Annapurna Himalayas.
Enjoy the comfort in a nice simple lodge at Tadapani a settlement with several
good lodges.

Morning enjoy the views of Annapurna Himalayan range of snow peaks, after
breakfast, enjoy the last day trek. The trail leads into serene forest to Bhaise
Kharka, a small settlement with few Tea Houses. From here downhill on winding
path to Ghandruk village, on reaching a lovely large village of Ghandruk.
The native of southern Annapurna hills are the Gurung people the main hill tribes
at Ghandruk having lunch. As well with time to explore the local traditional village stepped with Gurung cultures of Buddhism. A short visit to Gurung museum of great cultural interest. From Ghandruk an exciting drive of few hours bring you
to Pokhara. Enjoy the last overnight around Mid-West Nepal with spectacular
views of the Annapurna Himalayas with beautiful Phewa Lake.

Morning after breakfast, an exciting drive back to Kathmandu on the same interesting highway. On arrival in the heart of the city, check into your nice hotel
rooms, rest of the day at leisure.

Is Ghorepani and Poon Hill with steep climb?

A moderate to adventurous with steep ups and downhill, one of the best and perfect walks around the Himalayas. Trekkers must be aware that Nepal and Himalayan landscapes are all ups and downhill. The only flat land is in the southern Terai belt of Nepal, walking slow and steady will overcome the difficulty. 

The only tough walk is climb to Poon Hill for an hour, and then towards Tadapani.
Rest of the walk is pleasant with winding downhill. Taking time and having short rest will be good to enjoy the uphill walks.
