The walk leads through lovely traditional Sherpa villages adorned with impressive Buddhist monuments of stupas and prayer walls. To enter the Sagarmatha National Park, listed as a world heritage site, and then head towards the famous Namche Bazaar. A large village and town, the hub of Khumbu villagers as well as for trekkers. Namche Bazaar is a perfect spot to spend an extra day to support acclimatization before heading towards higher destinations.

After Namche Bazaar, on the scenic trail with climbs to beautiful Tengboche, a beautiful place with a colorful monastery. To reach Gokyo Valley of Lakes via the high Cho-La pass, after a steep climb on top of Kalapathar. For the closest majestic views of Mt. Everest and surrounding giant peaks. After visiting the first part of the highlights, the route diverts from the main trail. To reach the base of Cho-La Pass at Dzongla, for the steep climb to cross the high Cho-La pass.

Best Seasons for Everest Base Camp & Gokyo via Cho-La Pass Trekking

The best times for Everest Base Camp & Gokyo via Cho-La Pass treks are spring, autumn. The high seasons for trekking around the Himalayas. Most days are clear
for views and pleasant walks. The spring season begins from March to May,
most days is pleasant, with glorious views of snow-capped mountain range.

Spring is also the best time for wildflowers, especially the rhododendrons of various species and colors. Makes the whole hills and valley lively and colorful, can get overcast with light rain sometimes. Cold morning and night time above 3,000 m onwards. The next good season is autumn from September to November,
it is also the peak seasons for trekking around the Himalayas.

Itinerary

Arriving in Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, our guide and staff receives you for a short transfer to your hotels. Then check into your nice rooms at given time meet with other trekking members for trek briefing.
Regarding Everest base camp and Gokyo via Cho-La Pass Trekking, with dos and don’ts as well information on Responsible Tourism. Evening a group welcome dinner in a nice Nepali Restaurants, a great introduction to Nepali foods and cultures.

Depart from the hotel for scenic short flight in a smaller aircraft to reach Lukla.
During short scenic flights enjoy panorama of Himalayan peaks with Everest until it lands at Lukla Tenzing and Hillary Airport. From Lukla, first day walk on nice scenic gradual trail to follow through lovely Sherpa villages. Following the Dudh Koshi River to overnight stop at Phakding village, after a pleasant first day of trekking.

From Phakding, after breakfast walk starts on gradual trail with few short up and down. Crossing across a bridge to enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo village with views of Tharmasarku peaks. After Monjo walk past the park entrance cross Dudh Koshi River reaching Jorsalle. The last village before Namche Bazaar, possible lunch stops, afternoon walk on the river bank within forested trail.
After the last bridge few hours climb to Namche Bazaar.
The uphill trail follows on scenic winding path, with views of Kongde, Kusum-Khanguru and Mt. Everest and Lhotse. After hours of good slow climb, then reaching at famous Namche Bazaar, the commercial hub of Khumbu Sherpa’s.
At Namche with many good hotels and lodges to enjoy the lovely comforts with views of Kwangde range of peaks.

At Namche for hike and short excursion on rest day:
Visit museum at Sagarmatha National Park headquarter on top Namche Bazaar offers grand views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and Ama Dablam with other adjoining peaks.
Hike to Everest View Hotel, the highest deluxe hotel in the world at 3,880 m high offers views of Everest and Ama Dablam, for energetic people can hike to Khumjung and Khunde villages located on a glacial valley, with lunch at Khumjung and Khunde and back to Namche for overnight.

From Namche Bazaar adventure continues walking on winding scenic trail and then downhill to Imjatse River at Phunki-Tenga. A popular spot for lunch stop and refreshment, after lunch climb leads into a lovely forested path to reach Tengboche and the monastery. Located on scenic locations facing arrays of snow-capped peaks with Mt. Everest and majestic Ama Dablam. After checking into a nice lodge, visit the impressive colorful monastery of great religious and cultural interest.

Morning enjoy the glorious views of Everest and start the day with downhill to a bridge. From here the tree lines drops for barren landscapes, as climb leads to Pangboche. The last permanent village en route to Everest base camp and beyond towards Everest Three Passes. From Pangboche a short climb to Somare for lunch with grand views of Ama Dablam. Afternoon walk on gradual uphill reaching a small bridge, and then climb to Imjatse valley where Dingboche settlement located. Enjoy the overnights within scenic valley of Imjatse facing North Face of Ama Dablam and Island Peak in the east of the valley.

Another rest day at Dingboche, morning enjoy a short acclimatization hike to Nakarjung Hill top. Enjoy the grand panorama of surrounding high peaks with views of Mt. Makalu in the east direction. Afternoon rest and explore around Dingboche, a place with many good lodges.

After relaxing time at Dingboche, start the trek to Lobuche with climb to a high ridge. Facing grand views of Imjatse Valley and surrounding snow mountains, the walk follows on gradual up to Thugla. A small settlement for lunch stop, afternoon a short steep climb to Thugla ridge. After a short rest on pleasant path to Lobuche for overnight stop facing close views of Nuptse peak. Lobuche with more than 5-6 nice lodges for overnight stay.

From Lobuche morning starts with pleasant walk on a wide valley with short climb over moraine of rocks. Walking above Khumbu glacier, and then short downhill towards a wide field reaching at Gorakshep. A small settlement with few lodges. Gorakshep at one time it was the Everest base camp. After a short stop and rest walk continues over moraine and rocks to reach Everest base camp.
Stand beneath the world highest peaks of Everest and Lhotse and within close to massive Khumbu Ice Falls and glaciers. Enjoying marvelous time at Everest base camp, return walk to Gorakshep for overnight stop in a nice lodge.

Early morning options for climb to Kalapathar a rocky hill, offers closest views of Mt. Pumori and Mt. Everest. A strenuous climb to reach on top of the highest spot of the adventure at 5,644 m / 18, 517 feet. Rewards mind-blowing panorama of world’s highest mountain range with majestic Mt. Everest.
After a glorious scenic moment back to Gorakshep, and continue walk back to Lobuche. Then heading towards, a hidden corner at Dzongla a small settlement with few lodge for overnight stop. Facing close of Taboche and Cholatse peaks.

Another exciting morning to cross over the second pass of the adventure, rising up early. Having good breakfast and carry packed lunch for the long day, walk starts on gradual path. On reaching the base of Cho-La Pass, then climb starts on a steep slope to reach on top of Cho-La Pass. The actual word is Tsho-la, means a lake, a place with a small icy ponds. Which exists close to Cholatse and Nirekha peaks, from the pass enjoy the scenery. Then descend slowly to the bottom of the at Thagnak for overnight stop, before heading to Gokyo Lake. Thagnak is located beneath Ngozumpa longest glacier of Nepal Himalaya.

A short day morning walks to Gokyo, at the main third lakes following on scenic trail to Na, a small settlement. Reaching the first lake, then the second and
finally at the third main lakes of Gokyo. Also called Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake.
After checking into a nice fine lodge and having lunch, afternoon relax and enjoy the views of Mt. Cho Oyo. The world’s 06th highest and Gyachung Kang, reflects on the surface of emerald colored Gokyo Lake.

At Gokyo, options for an early morning hike to the high hills of Gokyo-Ri.
Where one can enjoy panorama of the world’s four highest peaks of Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. Everest, Lhotse and Mt. Makalu. Includes views of Gokyo Valley and its lakes with Ngozumpa Glacier, after a great scenery descend to Gokyo.
For breakfast and lunch, rest of the day at leisure and enjoy the surrounding gran views of beautiful landscapes.

On completing the major highlights of the trek, return journey to Dole on
downhill with few short steep climb. The walk heads past Machermo to reach
Dole for overnight in nice lodge.

Morning down to Phortse Tenga, by the Dudh Koshi River and them climb to
Mong Danda, a high ridge. After a short rest along with glorious view of snow
mountain range, then on easy winding path to Namche Bazaar. Enjoy the comfort
of a nice lodge accommodation and excellent meals for dinner.

Having breakfast enjoy the last day walk of the adventure heading downhill to
Dudh Koshi River Valley. The walk continues with short climb past Sagarmatha
National Park, to reach Monjo a lovely small village. After Monjo cross a long
exciting bridge to reach Phakding, and then on gradual winding trail with last final
climb to Lukla for last overnight night around Khumbu.

An early morning short walk to Lukla Tenzing & Hillary Airport to catch the flight
back to Kathmandu. Board on a smaller aircraft for sweeping flight to Kathmandu,
on reaching Kathmandu Airport. Transfer to your hotels, rest of the day at leisure
for individual activities.

A free day for individual activities, as well as to explore the heritage and cultural sites of Kathmandu. One can enjoy shopping for souvenirs of Nepal, from rugs, pashmina shawls to various handicrafts. This day is especially reserved as contingency in case of flight delay / cancellation in Lukla or vice-versa.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Everest & Gokyo via Cho-La Pass a difficult trek?

A moderate to adventurous with steep ups and downhill, one of the best and perfect walks around the Himalayas. Trekkers must be aware that Nepal and Himalayan landscapes are all ups and downhill. The only flat land is in the southern Terai belt of Nepal, walking slow and steady will overcome the difficulty. 

The only tough walk is climb is towards Everest Base Camp and crossing over Cho-La pass for few hours. Rest of the walk is pleasant on winding gradual downhill. Taking time and having short rest will be good to enjoy the uphill walks.

Is this Everest and Gokyo a popular destination?

Gokyo Valley is a scenic place but not as much popular than Everest base camp.
But every seasons from past few years is getting more interested trekkers and adventurers. It is a good exercise, and practice for climbing peaks and higher mountains for interested trekkers.

What do we expect on this Trek?

Are there facilities for electricity, internets and WI-FI?

The trek to Everest base camp and Gokyo Valley, nearly all lodges on overnight stops, have electricity facilities either run by Hydro or solar power. Trekkers can charge their electronic items on paying extra for charging each gadgets. 

Some lodges offer free Wi-Fi and Internet services while few places might charge extra. But the connection in some places can be disturbing and takes time to run the service either in long distance call or using the internets.
